UFO - Chantilly

(Scroll down for the English translation)

Grazie, Gertie!

I finished a UFO (Unfinished Object)!
I started to cut and sew this Chantilly (from my beloved Colette Patterns) last year and I was quickly discouraged.

To begin with, I realized that I missed about 20 cm for a panel of the skirt while cutting the fabric. I went back to the shop and of course there was no fabric left. So one of the front panel is not cut on the straight grain, but luckily it's not too obvious, thanks to the irregular pattern of the fabric.
The second reason is that I started working on it in the spring so the dress was already too heavy for the season, since I chose wool muslin. I lost motivation, because I knew that I would not wear it until the year later. Finally, even though the muslin I sewed fitted perfectly, the "official" version was too wide in the torso. In the photo where I have my hands in my pockets (btw, I LOVE Colette for adding pockets to every skirt!) you can see that it's too wide in the waist.
Well, never mind... I quite like the end result! Given the season, I have to wear a cardigan anyway, and maybe I'll add a belt to tighten the waist a bit more.
For the hem, I used the great technique explained by Gertie in these videos. Thanks, Gertie!

  2. I think you look great on these photos! I really love the pattern on your fabric and the way your skirt seems to move! If you really think that the waist is a little too loose. I would go with a belt, too. :)

  3. Your dress looks great. The little fault with the grain is not visible with these awesome print.
I cant motivate myself for finishing some of my UFO's (the oldest UFO is about 6 or 7 years, when i start sewing.)
