For once, I love both the fabric they chose and the way they styled this dress. It might be because I'm desperatly wishing for the weather to get warmer and to be able to go to the seaside, but I love this little dress. I'm very curious about the construction, because I don't really understand how the gathering under the bust is created.
This pattern is just a shorter, sleevess version of the dress above, but between the lace and the gathered shoulders I fell in love with it. It looks so comfy and breezy, while very feminine.
I don't see myself wearing this dress soon, especially with the plonging neckline and the virtual impossibility to wear a bra, but it's really gorgeous. I hope the magazine will feature a better photo, that shows how the back looks, and I'd be very curious to see this on a girl skinnier than me... I bet it's stunning.
I'm afraid this pattern isn't that unique and that a very similar one appeared in the magazine in the last few years, but I adore the color choice. Those two little pockets are so cute! I would definitely try it on if I saw it in a store.
Finally, the designer pattern (
It's a pity that where I live finding someone that pleats fabric permanently is almost impossible and very expensive (is it the same where you live?).
Still, what a beautiful dress!
All the technical drawings will be soon available in the Flickr set.
Is this the dress?? http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/62010-drap%C3%A9-dress
ReplyDeleteI love the style and the fabric choices, so gorg!

Ohhh it seems the same!
DeleteWow, that's VERY similar! Great eye!
DeleteThe jacket may not be unique, but burdastyle mag is notoriously difficult to come across in my town (and I don't subscribe) - I might have to go out of my way to get my hands on this issue because I really love the style of this!
ReplyDeleteI got so excited when I saw the navy dress, I thought it was part of the pluses, bummer.
ReplyDeleteI really like the second piece (the white blouse). I think it would be great for summer!
I love this section! I really like the first dress, but I'd like to see how is the back.
ReplyDeleteThanks for you review! Have a nice weekend!
Have you heard of the shibori method of pleating fabric? I haven't tried it yet but I've been reading up: http://www.gloriahansen.com/weblog/?p=3887
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion!
DeleteI just found your blog by coincidence and I love it! You have sewn a lot of stuff that I plan on doing, so it has been very helpful (you just made me realise that I should think twice about sewing the Colette Parfait in a silk fabric I was planning to use).
ReplyDeleteAbout permanent pleats, in Denmark you can sign up for sewing courses that are held at either design schools or public schools with well-equipped craft studios - both have lots of industrial sewing equipment. I managed to build up some trust with the tutor there, and she lets me use their equipment in between classes from time to time for free. Maybe there is something like that in your area?
Thank you and welcome!
DeleteThat's great advice, I should look into it, although fashion schools here are a bit snobbish and not very open to outsiders...
Nice blog, just found you through flickr! About the designer dress: the designer is called Luisa Beccaria, there's an interview with her in the German edition.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHiya
ReplyDeleteI really love that jacket! But I've just been searching all over the Burda website and I can't find the pattern - would you have a link to the place where it is sold by any chance?
Thanks so much
If the magazine is not available where you live, it should be soon for sale at burdastyle.com :)
DeleteI really like the white blouse. I think it could also work as a short dress for the beach. Unfortunately, it's much easier to make the blouse than find the time to go to the beach.
ReplyDeleteThe gather under the bust pattern looked so familiar to the current ottobre women pattern. The construction is simple, really. The underbust have extra fabric while the top part is cut/reduced.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I rather like the one made by the designer. Looks pretty.
