Peter Pan experiment

Didn't I tell you that I had made another blouse from the La Mia Boutique pattern? Well, here it is!
This blouse was purely an experiment, since I wasn't sure if the collar would work once shifted. That's why I only used remnants from previous projects (this and this) to sew it.
I'm quite satisfied with the result, but it won't become one of my most worn blouses. First of all, the materials are stiffer than the viscose I used for the Apple of My Eye blouse, which means that the bodice is significantly tighter and the collar revealed itself to be what I had already suspected: a flounce, more than an actual collar. I really wasn't going for a ruffly effect, so I handstitched the collar to the shoulder seams, this way most of the "ruffliness" is in the back and I can hide it wearing a cardigan over it.

As I said, it's not the best blouse in the world, but it was great practice for sewing a bound collar and a placket (is anyone interested in a tutorial for the latter?).
All in all, it increased my love for Peter Pan collars even more (like that's possible) and since it kind of reminds me of Megan Nielsen's Banksia top, it made me want to try that pattern even more.

In other news, did you notice the new "Sewing Studio" and "Lovely Guests" tabs under the blog banner? They took some work, but I'm so satisfied with the result. I hope they make the blog navigation easier!

    Grazie, Giulia! nella realtà si nota molto di più, ma tanto adesso devo per forza indossarla sotto a qualcos'altro.

    @Juliette
    Thanks, Juliette! You can always try, experimenting is always great for practicing!

  6. I see what you mean about the wonkiness of the collar. I just made a muslin for the Violet blouse by Colette and the same thing happened with the collar. The fabric was really hard to work with and I think that's why. Hopefully the real version will come out ok. I think yours looks so cute though!

  9. Fabulous work, Paunnet! I'd love to see your tutorial for a bound collar and placket. I need to start pushing myself toward collared garments as they're something I haven't sewn yet.
    I can't wait for Megan Nielsen's other patterns to come out. I definitely plan on making the swing coat!

    Thanks, Janey, you're so sweet! :)

    @Emilie
    I had problems with the Violet collar too, and just like you, I think it happened because I chose a fabric a bit too stiff.

    @mathilde
    Merci, Mathilde! Moi aussi, je devait porter un col claudine à l'école primaire, mais je l'aimais déjà alors!

    Thanks! I'm so proud with it because I'm really helpless with web design, but I did it all on my own :)

  13. I am sure it works perfect with a cardigan. How did you draft your Peter Pan collar. I just saw a tutorial for it on another blog. Maybe you have seen it, too?

    It looks very plausible to me, but I haven't tried it, yet.
    Have a wonderful weekend Anna!

    I used the same collar as my previous apple blouse, I just rotated it towards the center.
    Thanks for the link, looks like a great tutorial.
    I once drafted my own peter pan collar for a Sencha blouse and I used Gertie's tutorial (worked great).

  15. I like the collar. You should most certainly make it again in a softer fabric, the style suits you!
