Red Stripes Prefontaine shorts + Perfect Pattern Parcel #3

Size: L
Alterations: lengthened back crotch 2cm to accommodate my big derriere
Fabric: a scrap of beautiful African cotton from my mum's stash

I said many-a-times I don't like to wear shorts because I have a bit of a complex towards my thighs, but I said FUCK IT!
I'm transitioning to vegetarianism, so I lost some weight; I started running, so my thighs looks sliiiiightly more muscular; and most of all, it's SO freakin' hot right here, I need to let my legs breath.
It does help I also came across this super cute pattern.
These shorts are incredibly quick to sew (under 2 hours for me), they feature cute contrast trim, they're not too short (the inseam is 3"), and they're very comfortable.
I wouldn't wear them to an event or somewhere with a lot of people, but they're perfect for quick errands, walking Dora, lounging around or even as PJs! (In fact, the design is similar to the shorts of Grainline's Lakeside Pjs, but I actually like the fit of these shorts better). I really want to make another pair!

But the best part of this pattern, it's that it is part of the Perfect Pattern Parcel #3Do you know this program?
For a two week period, select designers offer up their patterns and you get to not only decide how much you want to pay for the set, but also how you want to split it between the designers, a charity supporting children’s education, and Perfect Pattern Parcel. You can read more about them and what they do here (but hurry up, because the time's almost over!).

Taglia: L

  1. You look fabulous in these shorts! I love the striped material. Plus, I'm super pleased you love the fit. I made this pattern because I hate shorts!

  2. You're right: fuck it! They're your thighs and they are awesome in some awesome shorts. Anyone who says differently probably needs to worry about their own thighs.

  3. I hate my thighs too. I wonder if most pear shapes do? I also hate knees. LOL. I have sewn this pattern up too and love it. I think they look great on you and very comfortable. Your thighs look normal and not weird either ;-)

  4. I love the fabric you used and they look really good on you. I never wore shorts because I didn't like my legs, in fact I didn't even own a pair. Then one day during summer I walked from the metro station to the store and it was a long ass walk, I felt like I was on fire with the pants I was wearing. I ended up buying a pair at Target and changing in the bathroom, I felt so good that not once did I think about how my legs looked. I have been wearing shorts ever since.

  5. The fit really is perfect! And you look absolutely lovely in them :) I'm actually trying to keep myself from sewing more shorts (I thought I didn't have any but it turns out I have seven pairs already..) but this pattern sure makes it difficult to resist :D I have the same feelings towards skirts though, if someone please could show me a skirt that fits my body type...

  6. Just got back from a trip to Firenze and Roma -boy was it hot! So shorts are a must, yours look great! I'm a fairly long-time vegetarian and was surprised at how many great Veggie places there were. If you're ever in Firenze then we had the most amazing 'menu degustazione' at 'Club la tertulia il barone di porta romana' -highly recommend it!

  7. irstly, you have nothing to worry about, you look awesome in these shorts! Secondly, I spent a huge part of my youth hiding my body because I felt it was too thin. Now I worry about showing a poochie belly. I guess all of us have bits that we don't like no matter what shape we are! I really like Esta's quote.

  8. Congrats on your fit, your body is perfect and the shorts are amazing! I love the contrasting trim all around they remind me about 'late '70 to early '80 shorts, when Daisy of Hazzard tv series was my female hero :)

  9. This is my fav pair of prefontaine's yet!

  10. These look so great on you! You look so cute in shorts!

  11. I agree - all the pear shapes out there hate their legs - but if I had your legs, I'd live in shorts in the heat:). Seriously. The shorts are super cute on you.

  12. I'm pretty sure I have a photo of my mum in the 70s wearing shorts like these while running, they were pretty popular back then :)

  13. Thanks! I just went to Firenze last month, but I'll keep it in mind!

  14. From the photos on your blog, your body looks really lean and proportionate, but correct me if I'm wrong. That means you'd look good in almost any type of skirt...
What issues do you find with the fit of skirts?

  15. That's an amazing quote, thank you so much!

  16. You did such a great work! :D

  17. I hardly have a waist and barely any hips, so not that many curves to accentuate. The reason why I don't like skirts, is that I have a swayback so my not-so-flat-to-begin-with tummy therefore looks even rounder from the side. I prefer skinny jeans with loose tops, I feel that they hide my stomach. But I haven't succeeded with that with a skirt yet :/

And thank you for stopping by my blog! I just recently started, and it's been so much fun :) Your blog is amazing and you are such an inspiration to me :)

  18. I see, we are basically opposite! You should probably try a skirt that gives an illusion of a smaller waist and flares out at the bottom, balancing the shoulders... Chardon by Deer and Doe could be a good guess, because the pleats are stitched down (you can always go lower than the instructions) and the volume starts at the hips.
Finally, if you need a swayback, it's relatively easy alteration to master.
    Good luck! :D

  19. This is the precise weblog for anybody who needs to seek out out about this topic. You notice so much its almost arduous to argue with you. You positively put a brand new spin on a subject that's been written about for years. Nice stuff, simply nice!
