The Violin Recital dress

This week's theme at the Sew Weekly is "Made this Look", that is recreating a RTW dress finding suitable pattern and fabric, just like Mena does in her brilliant "Make this Look" posts.
My inspiration was the Violin Recital dress from Modcloth and to recreate it I used pattern #128 from Burdastyle Magazine 05/2011.

I'm still on the fence about this dress. While I love the peter pan collar and the lace, it might be a bit too much for me and (especially) for where I live. It's very frou frou and the white is so in your face that I'm thinking of tea staining it.

If you want for more details, you can read my post here.

  1. I can't remember if I've already commented over on The Sew Weekly, but I wanted to say again how great this dress is. I love the stark contrast of the white and black but I think it could also look really nice tea-stained.

  2. It's so gorgeous and I love than you used black tights with it! I understand your hesitation about white though but it suits you so well.

    1. Thank you! It's so delicate, but I'm afraid it might be a bit too in your face for me... Oh, I can't decide! :(

  4. Your version is even better than the original with that cute scalloped hem line.

  7. I love this dress, you look stunning. You make this look very adult, not childish or "confirmation" style at all.

  10. I think the dress is beautiful as is - but if the only thing your on the fence about is the bright white - then definitely tea stain it! theres no sense having a dress that your so-so about when you could have a dress that your in love with!

  12. Yes your creation this week is so lovely! I do think I would probably wear it more too if it was tea stained. I think it will feel a little less formal. But it is lovely as is too.

  13. Your version is great, lovely, delicate... I understand your hesitate, because I would think the same... It´s too for my small town... but we have to wear this kind of fashion!! People have to learn about it! I would be so happy if I can´t sew something similar, great job!!!

  14. This is such a lovely dress! I have always dreamed of re-creating a dress that inspires me, but I haven't had much success with it.
I think it is super pretty, but I understand how you feel. Where I live people are not very adventurous when it comes to how they dress.
That is a tough call tea staining would add to the versatility but I do think it's beautiful as it is.
