The Burda Archive Project

The first Burda magazine I've ever seen was back in 2006. I couldn't sew yet, but I had asked my mom to make me a skirt for a formal occasion and she told me we could find a pattern for it in that magazine. I was immediately charmed. It wasn't just the begininning of a learning process, but also of a small collection. After that year, I bought Burda magazine randomly until 2010, when I started to buy it regularly
Granted, some issues are really not worth buying. But looking at the previews on the site and leafing through the actual magazine every month has become a sort of ritual for me.

Now, the number of issues in my possession is starting to be diffucult to manage. I sometimes look for a specific pattern but I never remember in which issue it was in. I had started to make copies of the central pages, the ones with all the technical drawings of the patterns, to be kept in a binder in my room, but then I thought, why not to share with the Internet?
You can find all the issues from 2010 and 2011 in my Flickr (January and August 2010 are missing, sorry). All the titles and stuff are written in Italian, but you don't really need them if you're using these pages like I do. I will update the sets regularly and I will also add the few issues pre-2010 and the few issues I own of La Mia Boutique, in case anyone might be interested.
This is a great way for me to keep track of all my patterns, but I do hope that someone can find this useful!

  1. fantastico fantastico ti adoro!

  3. This is such a fantastic idea!! and it is so generous of you to share it like this!

  4. Hi. I've been cataloging mine for my own use using evernote and getting the line drawings and pictures from this russian website There a woman (maybe peacock chic?) who to post pictures from for each issue and she was asked to remove it by Burda. As you are just posting a small percentage of the magazine it shouldn't be a problem but something to keep in mind. Vanessa

  5. @Vanessa
I hope it won't be a problem, after all the pages I post might push people to buy more magazines...
    Thanks for the heads up!

  6. I use Burda Style patterns for my sewing too. The burda archive project is a great idea :)

  7. I started to purchase the mag's regularly recently. I am finding the same thing, I keep searching in the wrong mag for patterns and I get easily confused. As my stash grows, I should take on your categorising tip!

  8. I scan all the At-a-glance page of every issue I have and keep it in a private Picasaweb gallery. I started buying Burdas in 2005, and used to just pick up the odd issue here and there until about 2008 or 2009, when my local sources dried up and I had to subscribe to guarantee getting the good issues! If you want to see my gallery to download the scans for the issues you have and save yourself some scanning time, just email me and I'll send you the link.

  9. It's a good idea, but you can already find the archives on the Italian burdastyle. It maybe worth a look

  10. @Sewing Princess
Yes, there are, but I find them a bit unpractical for consultation. Also it's never up to date!

  11. Oh! That's exactly what I was looking for. I'm just starting to sew clothes and before I buy me some Burda patterns and the magazine, I wanted to study a little how the patterns look like. Also, after reading the comments I think I'll start indexing everything I get as soon as I buy them to save me some later confusion. Greetings fron Greece, grazie mille :)

  12. hi,would you please send me the link?
